Kein brüllender Supersportwagen, kein teurer Oldtimer, kein seltener Prototyp oder Einzelstück mit Prominenz im Fahrzeugbrief, keine berichtenswerte Historie, also eigentlich gar keine Historie – wie auch, bei einem Jahreswagen. Trotzdem schafft es Dustin uns zu überzeugen, ihn auf seiner Ausfahrt zum Saisonende zu begleiten. Sicher hat dieser herrlich goldene Oktobertag, wie man ihn sonst nur aus Prospektmaterial für Seniorenresidenzen kennt, seinen nicht unerheblichen Teil dazu beigetragen. Audi A5 Cabriolet – warum auch nicht. Verdeck runter und auf geht die wilde Fahrt…

It’s no roaring super sports car, nor an expensive vintage auto. It’s no rare prototype or a one-of-a-kind with special paperwork, and it has no notable history—actually no history at all—and the same goes for the car of the year title. Nonetheless, Dustin managed to convince us to join him on his end-of-season ride. The glorious golden October day, otherwise seen only in leaflets for retirement homes, was definitely a contributing factor when we agreed, but an Audi A5 Convertible? Why not? With the hood down, we went off on a wild ride…

Assistent an Bord

S-line-Paket? Hat er! Alles andere wäre auch kaum zu ertragen, wobei sicher 90% der offenen Zweitürer die Produktionsstrecke in Neckarsulm mit diesem Extra absolvieren. Audi steht weiterhin zum Stoffverdeck, finden wir gut und Dustin zeigt uns, dass man selbiges sogar während der Fahrt auf Knopfdruck öffnen und schließen kann. Laut Hersteller bis gut 50km/h, wir haben’s bei 150km/h probiert – ohne Erfolg. Logisch, und da wären wir auch schon in der Neuzeit angekommen. Dem Fahrer wird so ziemlich alles abgenommen, was man derzeit mit Assistenzsystem aus- bzw. anrichten kann. Klar, dazu zählt nicht nur die geschwindigkeitsabhängige Verdecksteuerung.
In erster Linie debütiert die neue A5 Generation mit zahlreichen elektronischen Helferlein rings um das Thema „pilotiertes Fahren“. Selbständiges Bremsen an Kreuzungen und engen Kurven, Verringern der Geschwindigkeit bei Ortseingang, aber auch das komplett selbständige Anfahren, Abstandhalten und Abbremsen im Stau – also stop&go, leicht gemacht – beherrscht der gletscherweiß-metallic-farbige Ingolstädter. „Hände weg vom Lenkrad“ – inklusive. Alles wird möglich, durch Vernetzung mit dem Navi. Toll!

An S-Line Packet? Check! Anything else would be hard to bear since 90% of open two-door cars come complete off the production line in Neckarsulm with this extra. Audi has stuck with the soft top, which we are delighted with, and Dustin shows us that it can open in the same way as it shuts while driving, all at the touch of a button. According to the manufacturer, this works well at speeds up to 50km/h. We tried it at 150 km/h without success. That’s all logical, though, as with that we would have arrived in a new era. The job of the driver is so seemingly decreased with the current abilities of the assistance system. Of course, this goes beyond the speed-dependent soft top control.
First and foremost, the new A5 generation debuts the numerous electronic assistance which brings us to the topic of “piloted driving.” Independent braking at intersections and curves, decrease of speed when entering the city, as well as the completely independent start, maintaining of proper distance to other cars, and breaking in traffic (stop and go is made easy!) was all mastered by the glacier-white, metallic-colored Ingolstadt auto. A “hands-free” wheel is included. Everything becomes possible by networking with the navigation system. Excellent!

Herbstliche Grüße

Wir haben erst gar keine Lust auf Stau und umgehen ihn professionell durch Wahl unseres Ausflugszieles. Clever, oder? Haben wir uns selbst ausgedacht, ohne Assistenzsystem. So bleibt mehr Zeit für den herbstlichen Ausblick, den wir im 360Grad-Panoramblick genießen. Dabei haben wir bewusst das feminine Windschott daheim zurückgelassen und genießen den Hurrikan hinter der Frontscheibe. Irgendwie beruhigend, dass dieses Naturphänomen bisher vom Audi-Ingenieur, von elektronischer Seite her, unangetastet blieb. Oder gibt es da künftig was Neues zum Ankreuzen?!

We had no desire to sit in traffic and handled it professionally by choosing our excursion destination. Clever, right? We thought it up ourselves without the help of the navigation system. This left more time for the autumnal sights which we enjoyed with a 360-degree panoramic view. We deliberately left the wimpy wind deflector at home and enjoyed the hurricane behind the wind screen. It’s somehow reassuring that this natural phenomenon has been left untouched by the Audi engineers from the electronic point of view. Or is this something new to tick off the list in the future?

Alles richtig gemacht

Der 2,0 TFSI macht einen guten Job, wenn man „Cruisen“ für sich favorisiert. Die einhergehenden Verbrauchswerte sind daher zeitgemäß und trösten über den fehlenden „Bums“ hinweg, wie man ihn zum Beispiel vom TT 8J, mit ähnlichem Motorenrezept, her kannte. (rein subjektive Feststellung, Anm.d.Red.) Mit DriveSelect das Fahrwerk samt Lenkverhalten und damit die Charakteristik des A5 auf „dynamic“ zu justieren, macht schon Laune, vor allem weil sich dann auch der passende Sound am Endrohr einstellt, stimmen wir Dustin zu. Zeit für einen Zwischenstopp, um noch ein paar Perspektiven des offenen A5 auf uns wirken zu lassen.
Auch wenn dieses Cabriolet kein typisch saisonal genutztes Modell ist, verzichtet unser Frischluftfan in den Wintermonaten oftmals auf das eigene Auto und wählt die Öffentlichen, wenn es quer durch die Stadt geht. In der Regel verbleibt der Ingolstädter dann auf dem privaten Parkdeck. Umso höher ist die Freude, wenn der Quattro sein Terrain sucht und es ihn naturgemäß in die Berge zieht. Deshalb heißt es um die Jahreswende: „Ski heil!“ für Dustin – und der Flachlandjodler nimmt Kurs in Richtung Pitztaler Gletscher. Vollkommen klar, dass daher Allradantrieb ganz oben auf der wishlist stand. Offensichtlich war dieses Hobby auch ausschlaggebend für die Farbwahl. Alles richtig gemacht.

If you like to cruise, the 2.0 TFSI does a good job. The corresponding consumption levels are fitting with the times, and you can take comfort in this model over the other bum models such as TT 8J that are derived from a similar engine formula (a purely subjective statement, editor’s note). The drive select adjusts the suspension and steering performance and in this way, makes the characteristics of the A5 dynamic. We agree with Dustin, this makes for great fun, especially because it adjusts to make the fitting sound to come out of the tailpipe. Finally, it’s time for a stopover to get some more perspective on the Audi A5.
Even though this convertible isn’t a typically seasonally used model, a fan of the fresh air does not often choose to ride with an open top in the winter months and chooses, instead, the public option to cross the city. As a rule, the Ingolstadt auto remains on the private park deck. This makes it an even greater joy when the Quattro seeks out its own terrain and takes off naturally for the mountains. That’s why it comes in handy especially in the new year: Bring on the skiing for Dustin and the flatland yodeler as they head to Pitztal Glacier! It’s absolutely clear that all-wheel drive was at the top of the wish list. Obviously, this hobby was crucial in deciding the car’s color. Everything’s been done right.

Heute: bedeckt

Apropos Wunschliste, in punkto softgarage fällt die heutige Wahl auf die 3-lagige Variante in sportlichem blau. Passt bestens zu unserem Gletscherweißen. Die Anprobe erledigen wir gleich vor Ort, so dass Dustin seinen A5 demnächst ordnungsgemäß in der Tiefgarage abdecken kann.

Speaking of wish lists, in terms of softgarage, today’s choice is the 3-layer variety in sporty blue. It fits perfectly with the glacier white. We did the fitting on the spot so that Dustin can soon be able to properly cover his A5 in his underground parking garage.

So, Nebensaison eingeläutet. Jetzt kann Väterchen Frost kommen und wir sagen Leb‘ wohl zu Dustin und dem „Goldenen Oktober“.
